We used to live in the centre of Glasgow, in a penthouse in the old Co-op building on Morrison Street. It was beautiful, and lots of people came. Now we have moved to a former farm in Kilsyth and I can almost hear the Glasgwegians groaning, saying, “Oh, now I have to drive. What a drag.” A word about that if I may. Most importantly, we really aren’t very far from Glasgow at all, and here it is really easy to park. You can get here in about a half hour. And what happens as you drive here—particularly if you decide to drive through Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch—is that it gets more and more beautiful.
Once you get to Kilsyth you drive along Stirling Road (A803)and now you are really out in the country. Sheep, cows, horses, rolling green hills, and sky. And when you pull up our long, long driveway at the top of a hill and see Gateside Farm for the first time—well, I guarantee you will love it. We have a large vegetable garden with a gazebo in it; a huge front, side and back garden; and a burn. The house is big enough—built in the 20's it has so many rooms it meanders! We will all sit in the kitchen or the conservatory, you will have a cup of tea or coffee, and you will be glad that you came.
We are only 39 miles from Edinburgh. Take the motorway towards Glasgow, then take the A803 turn to Kilsyth. We are just past Kelvinhead - a couple of miles before Kilsyth.
A note to those who don’t drive. In Glasgow, go to the Buchanan bus Station and take the number 24 or 27. Get off at ‘Kelvinhead,’ a few stops past the main stop in Kilsyth. If you want, call us and Karen-Claire can meet you at the bus stop and walk you home. (A short walk. Don’t worry). If you are coming from Falkirk or Stirling, get the number 24 or 27 and get off at ‘Kelvinhead.’ Again, if you want, call us and Karen-Claire will meet you.
